Frequently asked questions.

  • A sauna session at Chiltern Sauna Circle is a chance to unwind, connect, and experience the deep heat of a traditional sauna in nature. Here’s what to expect:

    • Arrival & Setup: Arrive on time, settle in, and get ready to enjoy the warmth.

    • Heat & Relaxation: Our wood-fired sauna heats up to 70-100°C. You can sit in different areas to find the temperature that suits you best.

    • Cool Down: Step outside to cool off between rounds. While most of our locations don’t have natural swimming spots, we always provide ways to refresh—whether it’s a bucket of cold water over your head or fresh air.

    • Hydrate & Rest: Drink plenty of water, listen to your body, and take breaks as needed.

    • Then repeat! Cycle through heat, cool-down, and rest as many times as you like within your session.

    • Community & Connection: Whether you’re sharing the space with others or enjoying a private session, sauna is about slowing down, feeling good, and embracing the moment.

Each session follows a natural rhythm—heat, cool down, rest, and repeat. Stay as long as you feel comfortable within your session time, and most importantly, enjoy the deep relaxation.

  • A sauna ritual is a guided experience led by a sauna master, designed to engage all five senses. Each ritual is unique, incorporating different elements such as:

    • Whisking – gentle movements with sauna whisks to stimulate circulation

    • Aromatherapy – infused steam, essential oils, or herbal bundles

    • Scrubs & Treatments – salt, clay, or honey-based applications for skin nourishment

    • Heat & Breathwork – deepening relaxation and presence

Every ritual offers a different journey, blending heat, scent, touch, sound, and taste to create a deeply immersive experience.

  • To make the most of your sauna session, please bring:

    • Swimwear (required)

    • Two towels – one to sit on in the sauna and one for drying off

    • A water bottle – hydration is key, but please no glass

    • Flip-flops or waterproof sandals – for comfort and hygiene

    • A warm layer, dry robe, or change robe – for when you step out of the sauna

Optional: A sauna hat to protect your head from the heat (we have some you can borrow).

Most importantly, bring an open mind ready for relaxation!

Please note: There may not be dedicated changing facilities at all sites, so arriving sauna-ready is recommended.

  • We pop up at different locations, and parking details will be included in your booking confirmation and event information. When possible, we choose sites with free parking, but this isn't always guaranteed. Please check the specific event details for guidance on where to park.

  • We keep a close eye on the weather forecast and make decisions accordingly. While sauna sessions can be magical in the rain, there are times—especially with our tent sauna—when high winds may mean we need to reschedule for safety reasons. If we need to cancel due to extreme weather, we’ll notify you as soon as possible and arrange an alternative date or a refund.

  • Our sauna sessions are for adults aged 18 and over. At this time, we do not offer sessions for children or under-18s.

  • We do not offer refunds or rescheduling for sauna sessions, so please make sure you’re available before booking.

  • We operate as a wild spa, so please don’t expect fancy facilities! Some locations may have basic changing areas, but for the most part, it’s best to come prepared. When in doubt, bring a changing robe or a towel to change discreetly.

  • We pop up at different locations, so please check the event or booking details for the exact address and directions. Your confirmation email will include all the information you need to find us.

  • Yes, you can! Water is the only drink allowed inside the sauna, but you’re welcome to bring snacks or drinks to enjoy before or after your session—just keep them outside the sauna.

    • No glass bottles for safety reasons.

    • No alcohol—we have a zero-tolerance policy.

Avoid heavy meals—please don’t eat a big meal within two hours of your sauna session for the best experience.

    • Swimwear is required in all communal sessions.

    • Always sit on a towel for hygiene reasons.

    • Respect the heat levels— please ask before adding steam to the stove or if you need to cool down, step outside rather than opening the door too often.

    • Keep conversations mindful—saunas are a space for relaxation. Feel free to chat but be aware of the atmosphere.

    • Hydrate before and after but avoid bringing anything other than water into the sauna.

    • No strong scents or oils—please do not bring your own essential oils or scrubs, as they can affect the sauna environment.

    • Be mindful of personal space—saunas can be intimate, so be considerate of others when choosing a spot.

No shaving, grooming, or skincare treatments inside the sauna.

  • Not yet, but they’re coming soon! We’re working on options for regular visitors, so stay tuned for updates and sign up to our waiting list to hear more.

  • Our saunas are wood-fired, creating an authentic and deeply warming heat. Temperatures typically range from 70°C to 100°C, depending on where you sit.

Please respect the stove, as it gets extremely hot. Our sauna host will manage the fire, so there’s no need to adjust it yourself. If you ever feel too hot, step outside, hydrate, and listen to your body.

  • We’re working on offering gift vouchers so you can share the sauna experience with others. Email us at anna@chilternsaunacircle.co.uk to find out more.
